The Windsor Framework Agreement
Since January 2021, a year after the UK formally left the European Union, the haulage industry has seen the biggest shake up in a generation. With costs spiralling there is understandable confusion and uncertainty, in particular with the Northern Ireland Protocol and how this might affect international trade with the Republic of Ireland for years to come.
Since Brexit, the Northern Ireland Protocol has allowed goods to move across the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland without being checked. Instead, the goods are checked at the Port, and can then be moved into the Republic of Ireland.
The much anticipated Windsor Framework Agreement was announced today (27/02/2023) at 15:30.
After 7 years of uncertainty, a joint statement issued from the UK and the EU draws to a close a very turbulent time within trade across the Irish Sea. Whilst full details of the new announcement are yet to be digested, it is clear that any relations that have benefitted our Irish service will soon be drawing to a close as the Republic of Ireland comes into line within the customs rules of mainland Europe.
If you are an account holder with us, we will have written to you directly, explaining in detail the processes and detailing our shared service to and from Ireland and what it entails.
We understand that the new protocols could be daunting; however, we are welcoming Account Holders to book a consultation with us to discuss any concerns/queries or for us to explain the processes to you via Zoom. This service is also open for Non Account Holders.
Consultations are free of charge for our Account Holders | For Non Account Holders - Consultations £45 + VAT
